At this time of year we see a lot of people coming to the bog looking for advice and support with their Sage Payroll or Accounts software. They might find it but probably not. The best place for support is in the forums where the experts really hang out. So if you need any help its just one click away. Hit the forums for fast friendly support.
For as long as I can remember Sage have been open 9 till 5 Monday to Friday. There are some exceptions like Sage Pay who are 24 hours but these are rare. It looks like slowly times are changing as they are now open 8 till 6. It’s still only Monday to Friday and you must have Sage Cover Extra to ring before 9 and after 5. Update 3: Year end submissions are go. The gateway is fixed so get your year end sent.
Update 2: Gateway is still having problems. We will update when we hear anything more.
Update: We have just found out that the block will remain in place till at least 8am on the 7th of April 2011.
The gateway has been closed from the 4th to the 6th of april at 6am. Although it is now open there are long polling delays and no way of checking if the submission has been successful. For this reason Sage have blocked submissions till the issue is resolved. It would appear that all 3rd party software is effected so a little patients is going to be needed. Sage have posted a useful blog post to help you with your year end. It’s nothing ground breaking but you should pay special attention to the version numbers. These are the key to making sure you have a pain free year end and all your figures are correct. If you have manually updated you legislation your version will be different but your figures should still be right. Head over to the blog and then to the forums for all the help you need with your payroll year end.

Infact just as this post goes live Sage are open from 8 till 6 Monday to Friday which means you have that little bit extra time to solve any problems you might have with your Payroll Year End. It’s that time of year again when Sage get seriously busy and everyone has to submit their year end to our beloved HMRC. For most of us it’s not too bad, we print our reports check it all agrees and were done. For some though it can all go wrong and cause a lot of problems. After many years using the Sage 50 group of products I began to think Sage may never bring out anything that I would find exciting (as exciting as business software can get anyway). The last week I started to hear of something called Sage One. I had heard of Sage hosted and Sage Live (Anyone else remember that?) both of which sounded great but never really hit the mark for me. Sage have recently released a new website to make it easier to download those all important updates for your accounts software. To use it head over to http://www.sage.co.uk/accountsupdates. Here you will find you can choose your program type and version and then up comes a list of the updates available. No need to login as with the old site and much clearer to work through. Always nice to see a updated that makes things faster and easier. Why not tell us what you think in the comments.
I have heard some very bad news. The new version of Sage 50 Accounts running on MySql is no more. Even though it was in beta at a number of sites it would appear that it is now dead. We had hoped that this new data structures would help to improve the network speed and reliability of the program. I have emailed Sage for comment but as yet have not had any response. What do you think? Are you seeing this as a big loss or do you not really care. Let us know in the comments.
